Themes Meeting the Savior "AT LAST!" The groom was blind. The bride was not. The young English man (wealthy and of a high social standing) had never seen his beautiful bride. He could only imagine her beauty when he touched his delicate fingertips on her face. He loved her greatly but he longed to see her. At ten years of age he lost his sight in an accident. However, his blindness did not hinder him. Today was no exception. It was his wedding day. Great joy filled his heart. Just weeks before his wedding day, he had visited a special eye doctor. New discoveries in medicine had given renewed hope to the young man. The doctor chose a new procedure that might let him see again. Excitement mounted with each appointment. After his last appointment, the doctor told him when his bandages could be removed. The day? His wedding day! He would not know until the day of his wedding if he could see or not! And now the wedding ............ His ophthalmologist (eye surgeon) met him at the door of the church. Already seated were cabinet ministers, generals, bishops, family and many friends. Everyone turned to get a glimpse of the groom. His white bandages attracted more attention than the flowers and decorations in the church. The doctor, the father and the groom walked to the front of the church. All eyes watched. The doctor pulled out a pair of scissors and started to cut away the bandages. At that moment, the bride, holding on to the arm of her elderly father, entered the church. Excitement swelled in her heart as she thought out loud. "Will he be able to see me today?" The wedding march softly announced the arrival of the bride. The people did not know where to look. They wanted to watch while the doctor cut off the bandages. They also wanted to watch the bride come up the aisle. The last bandage fell off as she reached the front. The silent drama drowned out the strains of the organ. Everyone wondered, "Can he see?" The sun, streaming through the window, fell across the groom's face just as he opened his eyes. The sudden brightness made him unsteady. But then, he looked straight at his bride. His face beamed in relief -- he could see! The first face he saw was that of his bride! With great dignity and joy, he stepped forward and held out his hand. "At last!" he said. Tears streamed down her cheeks as he hugged his bride. "At last!" This story is just a little picture of the joy Christians will have when they first see their Savior face to face. Are you saved? Do you know the Savior? Yes, "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" (1 Timothy 1:15). But, is He your Savior? Will you be one of those who "shall see His face" (Revelation 22:4). Or will you meet Him as your judge? "
