COME INTO MY WEB!

The branches were just right. It was grassy under the tree. Lots of insects buzzed and crawled about. This was the perfect place.

"I am waiting for a little wind." Mr. Spider said to himself as he crossed his many legs and waited. He was so hungry he could eat a big fat fly! However, he could not build his web until there was wind.

He fumed when a fly shot past him. "If only my web was built, I could catch that fly and eat him!"

Later that day, the wind blew. Mr. Spider climbed out on a branch. With the wind at his back, he began to spin out silken thread. The thread was made of several strands of liquid that solidified when they struck the air. These strands came together and formed a very strong thread. The wind carried the silk thread across to another branch. Mr. Spider pulled the thread tight making a bridge to the other branch.

He made different silk for each part of the web. The spokes were made of strong thread. The strands between the spokes were made of a sticky silk. Mr. Spider worked quickly. When the web was finished, he crawled to the center of the web and wove himself a silky mattress. Then, he waited. The soft wind gently rocked him to sleep.

"Whoomph!" Big Mr. Fly bumped into the web. His legs stuck to the silky threads. He struggled to get free. His struggles woke up Mr. Spider who stood up, stretched all his legs and looked across his web.

"Dinner. Ah Yes, Mr. Fly. So nice of you to come!" Mr. Spider hurried over to Mr. Fly. They did not talk.

Mr. Fly struggled hard but he could not get free. Mr. Spider spun more threads and wound them around Mr. Fly. He was without hope. He would never get free. He was in a spider's straight-jacket. He was doomed. Mr. Spider smiled as he moved toward Mr. Fly.

Does this tale remind you of anything? You are "flying" through life and not aware that the devil has spun his webs of capture. He wants you to be punished for your sins just like he will be. He doesn't want you to trust the Lord Jesus for salvation. He knows God says, "Christ also hath once suffered for sins; the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:18). The devil will try and destroy you and keep you from getting saved by making you think wrong thoughts. Here are some of his most common lies:

"You aren't that bad of a sinner are you?."
"You have lots of time. Don't think about this now!"
"God is a God of love. He won't punish you in Hell, will he?."
"How do you know the Bible is true?"
"Don't you want to have some fun first?"

Don't be fooled by the lies of the devil. Trust in the Lord Jesus - the One who loves you! "If the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" (John 8:36).
