Sunday School Lesson 429 Jewish Captives Return to Judea from Babylon

Lesson: 429 Lesson Name: Captives Return to Judea
Theme: Grace: God's Undeserved Favor

Reading: Ezra 1:1-11 2:62-70   3:1-13

Memory Verse: Psalm 103:12
Memory Verse Text: As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us.

Point 1: After the years of chastening, God again takes up the remnant. The Lord stirs up the heart of Cyrus. It always starts with Him. Knowing that God had given him the place and power that he had, he wants to do something for Him and calls for the captives to go forth to rebuild the house of the Lord.
Point 2: All the things that had been carried away into captivity are given into their hands. Time and energy were put into the restoration and the altar is again set up and the sacrifices renewed.
Point 3: The people work together to put things right and the foundation of the temple was laid with much rejoicing and weeping! Truly the Lord had visited His people. What a thrilling yet humbling experience.
Point 4: However - whenever there is something for God, the enemies of the Lord are stirred up and there was an evil plot being hatched (4:1) even while they were rejoicing that the mercy of the Lord had been visited upon them in spite of their sin.
