Lesson: 128
Lesson Name: Jacob Sends His Sons to Egypt
Theme: Sin Acknowledged: Leads to Salvation
Reading: Genesis 42
Memory Verse: Romans 14:12
Memory Verse Text: Every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
Talking Points:
Point 1: When news came that there was corn in Egypt, the ten brothers went down. Jacob wouldn't let Joseph's only full brother, Benjamin, go. Their mother, Rebekah, had died when Benjamin was born.
Point 2: The brothers bowed themselves before Joseph (Gen. 42:6) without knowing that it was him. Joseph knew that it was his brothers and spoke harshly and accusingly to them (Gen. 42:7,8). The brothers then told him their story. Because Joseph feared God, he didn't treated his brothers the way they had treated him.
Point 3: After demanding that they bring their youngest brother to prove they weren't spies, Joseph heard his brothers confess their sin (Gen. 42:21-23). What a reminder that each of us will give account of ourselves to God.
Point 4: Joseph had a purpose in bringing his brothers to this dark hour of their lives. He also knew why God had allowed everything that happened (Gen. 45:5).
