Parents of the Old Testament

Deuteronomy 4:9 say that parents should teach God's laws "to your children and to their children after them." Deuteronomy 4:10 adds so they "may learn to revere (God) as long as they live in the land and may teach (God's laws) to their children."  In Deuteronomy 11:19, the Bible says to teach children about God's law "when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." In Deuteronomy 11:20, the Bible even says to write God's laws "on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."

Parents in the New Testament

Ephesians 6:4: "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."  The manner in which we treat children is a powerful lesson in itself.

Jesus and Children

Mark 10:13-16 was an event where the disciples did not want to let the little children bother Jesus. Jesus "rebuked" his disciples and invited the children to come to him.

The promises of teaching children

Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it."

Proverbs 29:21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.

Teaching a child the Bible can lead to the best results of all - the salvation of his soul. 2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
