Themes: "Christ Refused, God Speaks to Man, Opportunity - turning point AH It was August 6th, 1993. Over 100 people were busy at work in the American Bindery East in Colonial Heights, Virginia. Everyone was doing his job and no one had even the slightest thought that they all could be dead within a few minutes.
Suddenly in the distance, someone noticed the dark clouds. Then the eerie stillness followed. It was then that he saw IT and reacted.
Dennis Hisey was a 37 year old supervisor. He was in charge of the shift which was working. But there was something even more important than that. He had been born and raised in Topeka Kansas. He had seen them before. And of all the people there, he was the only one who knew what to do.
Calmly, but with as much speed and authority as he could muster, he ran to the center of the work area. He yelled, "Do as I say right now. Your lives are in danger". Everyone obeyed. He told them to go to the south east corner of the building and to lay down on the floor. It was only seconds later that the people all heard IT. It came with lightning speed and power. A path of destruction and death marked its path. But here at the American Bindery East, no one was killed . Everyone was saved.
The tornado which wrought havoc in three cities that day did not kill anyone at the bindery. It was because of two things: there was one man there who knew what to do when a tornado hit. But the other important factor is that everyone listened when he spoke and believed what he said.
Dennis Hisey was raised in an area where tornados are very common. Instead of "fire drills" which many schools have, his schools had "tornado drills". His knowledge of what to do helped save lives.
There is only one Savior for all mankind. The Lord Jesus is the only one who is able to save from sin and judgment. "Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is none other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12.
But the work of Christ has made salvation possible. Each soul must take it for themselves. If only one person had not obeyed when Dennis Hisey warned them to take cover, that one person would have been exposed to the full force of the tornado. It would not have been because Hisey did not know what to do. It wouldn't have been because he didn't warn him. It would have been because he didn't believe the warning.
If you refuse to believe God and His warning about your sin and need, God has no other Savior than CHrist. He has no other message for you than the Bible. "He that believeth on the son hath everlasting life. He that believeth not the Son, shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him." John 3:36
