How many times today did you turn on a faucet? Let's see - you brushed your teeth, washed your face, and washed your hands before breakfast. Mom watered the plants and made a pot of coffee . Outside, Dad finished washing the car and turned on the sprinkler. Water - we use so much of it, and all we have to do is turn on the tap.

Did you know that even today, most people have to carry all the water they need, every day, into their houses in buckets? Not so long ago, no one had faucets. Everyone got all their water from wells. It was hard and heavy work, and mostly, it was the women who did it.

Almost 2000 years ago a woman went out one day at lunch time to get some water from the village well. The well was a little way out of town. It was a long hot walk and she was tired. As she got near the well, she noticed a man she didn't know, sitting, resting near the well. She paid him no mind until He surprised her by asking for a drink.

Who was this man? Why was He sitting here? And why was He asking her for a drink? He didn't have anything to draw the water from the well with! He looked like a Jewish teacher, but religious men didn't talk to women in public, especially Samaritan women like her.

you've guessed who the man was. It was jesus! Was it just by accident that He was tired and sat down to rest by that particular well? Of course not! Was it just by chance that this woman came at the hottest time of the day when Jesus was there, to get water? The answer is a definite "no". God wanted to meet that woman, that day. There is no such thing as "luck" or "chance" with God. Everything is ordered and directed by Him.

It's not an accident that you are reading this story. It is not an accident that you have heard about Jesus. It is God's kindness and love that has ordered your life so that you could hear about the way to heaven.

Jesus told the woman many things about herself that a stranger could not possibly know. Finally in wonder she exclaimed "Is not this the christ?" She believed that this stranger was the son of god, and her life was changed forever. Then she went back to the village and told everyone about the stranger at the well. Crowds came out to meet Jesus and to listen to Him speak. Many more of the villagers believed that He was indeed the Christ, the savior of the World.

God brought the Samaritan woman to the well at just the right time to meet Jesus. As a result, not only she, but many others were saved and changed forever. God still works behind the scenes in every life today. We may not think that we are important enough for God to notice, but the Bible tells us that He knows how many hairs are on our heads! It also tells us that not one bird falls to the ground without God's notice, and that we are more valuable than many birds.! So remember, nothing in our lives will ever happen by accident or by chance because God, the same God who created and maintains the Universe, is in control.

God's goodness is to bring men "to repentance" Romans 2. He is waiting for you to "repent and believe the gospel."
