All I could do was to trust them Print E-mail

She was from the suburbs. She didn't like to drive through the city. It made her nervous if she was alone in the car. The city is where people were held up and beaten. Motorists were sometimes forced from cars and their cars stolen. She was from the suburbs and didn't like the city.

As she was driving home this night, heavy rain began falling. The road which she normally took suddenly flooded and she had to detour - right through the city. But things got even worse. As she tried to go through an intersection, her mini van stalled. She tried again and again to get it started, but she couldn't.

That's when she noticed them: three big men walking toward her and her van. They were all big, especially the man in the Raiders' cap. It was night and dark. Her car was in three feet of water. Three men were walking toward her and she was worried.

To her surprise, the men tried to push the car out of the water for her. But they were not able to get it moving. She kept the doors locked and kept wondering what to do. Could she trust them. She still couldn't get the van going and they couldn't move it. It was almost 10 PM. Were they just pretending to be nice so that she would open the doors? What should she do?

They men told her that they couldn't get the van started. Would she open the door? They told her that there was nothing that could be done and that they would take her to the train. Could she trust them: three men on a dark street at 10PM in the city?

She finally decided that she would have to trust them if she was going to have any chance of making it home. She opened the door and got out into the water. One of the men called his mother and together they walked her to the train, waited for her to get on the train, and waved goodbye. The men watched her car until the next day when a tow truck came to take it. She got home safely and got her van back.

The next day there was a message in the newspaper: "Thank you from the yuppie whose car stalled at 8th and Ferry". She told her friends, "My best chance was to trust them". How simple to just believe what they said and to trust them. You probably are thinking that she didn't know them. You're right. How did she know that they were telling the truth?

Isn't it sad, though, that boys and girls won't just believe God? Can't you trust Him and His Word? When He says, "He that believeth on the Son hath ever lasting life" don't you think that He is telling the truth?

How insulting it is to God to refuse to believe what He says. But it is not only insulting to God, it is what keeps men and women from being in heaven. The Bible says that the work of salvation has been done by the Lord jesus Christ. Believe God and be saved.
