Themes: "Bible's Accuracy, Resurrection One day, men went digging out side Jerusalem. They were archaeologists and were interested in finding evidence of old cultures. On this day in the summer of 1968, a team of diggers under the lead of V.Tzaferis went to an area known as Ammunition Hill, outside of Jerusalem. Here , as they dug, they found the evidence of four Jewish tombs. One contained the bones of a young man. What was especially important was that it showed he had been crucified. Judging by some pottery which was found inside the tomb with the young man, he was crucified by the Romans sometime between the years AD 7 and AD 66. The name Jehohanan is written in the tomb and could have been the young man's name. From examining the bones, it became evident that the young man's arms had been nailed to a beam of wood. His legs were bent and twisted as though they had been pushed under him while on the cross. When they looked at his ankle bones, they were surprised. There was still a large iron nail which had been driven through both his heels. A small fragment of wood was still present with the nails in the bones. It was wood from an olive tree. He had been hanged upon a tree. As they examined his leg bones, they were surprised to find that they had been broken by a forcible blow. This was probably done to speed up his death. Everything supports what the Bible says about crucifixion. We do not know why the young man in the tomb on Ammunition Hill was crucified. It may well have been for a crime of which he was guilty. His body was placed in a tomb and turned to dust. His bones speak to us about what happened. We do know why the Lord Jesus was placed upon a cross. It was because we are sinners: our hatred of God demanded that we try to get rid of Christ. His love for us demanded that He die for us. His bones are not in any tomb or museum. He has been raised from the dead by the Father. He is alive and able to save. Have you ever recognized, not only how He died, but "why" He died? "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." 1 Tim.1:15.
