Themes Purpose in Life BAD IDEA! You take a new toy out of the box. It is wrapped in plastic. It is too much bother to get scissors to cut the package open. So, you use your teeth. BAD IDEA! You wouldn't be the first person to break a tooth doing that. God gave you teeth for chewing food; not opening packages. Some people have done worse than that. One man had a lush green hedge growing on the edge of his property. One day when he was doing yard work, he decided to trim the hedge. However, he didn't have a hedge trimmer. So, he called his wife to come help him. He started his lawn mower and they each lifted an end of the mower to trim the hedge. BAD IDEA! The mower jerked when the blade hit a thick branch. He nearly cut off his hands. A lawn mower was made to cut grass not trim hedges. A women bought herself a new cat. The next day, while she was at work, the temperature dropped and it started to rain. The woman raced home from work because she had put the cat outside that morning in the backyard. When she arrived home, the feeble little feline was standing by the door, soaking wet, and shivering with the cold. The woman panicked and rushed inside to dry-off and warm-up the cat. In her rush she suddenly got the brainy idea to put the cat in the microwave. She shoved him inside, set the timer, and started the oven. BAD IDEA! The cat died. Microwave Ovens are made for cooking food, defrosting vegetables, and heating leftovers not for drying off cats. The stories are endless of people who suffered because they misused a tool, instrument or machine. Using a piece of equipment for something other than what it is designed for is dangerous. But, what about you? What were you made for? Why did God create you? The Bible states that "for thy pleasure we are and were created." God designed and made you to obey Him. Adam and Eve were the first people to disobey God. Look at the awful consequences of their sin. Sin is dangerous and it can hurt us. Sin affects our minds and our bodies. Stay away from sin at all cost-even if it seems like a good idea at the time. Even worse, the Bible says "the wages (payment) of sin is death."(Romans 6:23) God must give out punishment for all sin. You deserve to be punished in Hell for your sin. That is how serious disobeying God is. The first and greatest thing God wants you to do is to "be saved." God wants you to trust His Son, Jesus, for salvation. The greatest act of disobedience against God you will ever commit will be to not believe God about your sin and His Son. "He that believeth not the Son, shall not see life but the wrath of God abideth upon him." (John 3:36)
