Themes Resurrection FROM DEATH TO LIFE Have you ever helped someone plant a garden? When I was young, I loved to help my Dad. Every spring we hauled out an old rotatiller and turned up the soil in the garden. Then we buried the seeds under the ground in straight rows. Corn, beans, pumpkins, carrots, cabbage and even towering oak trees all come from seeds. But, how can this happen? How can a lifeless, dry, seed produce colorful leaves and delicious vegetables? How can seed so small produce trees so big? If I knew I would tell you. Somehow, God tells the seed when it is time to sprout and grow into a full plant. When planting corn, we would use a shovel or hoe and carefully dig a straight, narrow furrow in the dirt. Then, we would walk slowly and drop little yellow, corn seeds every six inches in the furrow. Finally, after all the seeds had been properly placed, we carefully pushed the dirt back into the furrow. We made sure we covered all the seeds. Next, we watered the garden. Then we waited. Day after day, we watered the garden. We expected each plant to grow many cobs of corn with hundreds of kernels. After about a week, we could see little green shoots poking up through the dirt. Eventually, they would grow to be tall, strong stalks with big, juicy, ready-to-eat cobs of corn. If I had never seen a garden planted before, I might have thought that we would never see the seeds again after we planted them. This was just how it was when they buried jesus. His disciples thought He was gone forever. However, they had forgotten that He had said He would come back to life! The Lord Jesus had used the picture of someone planting seeds as a picture of His death. He said, "Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit" (John 12:24). If the seed does not go into the ground and disappear, there will never be a plant to grow and produce fruit. The miracle that happens to seeds is just like the special plan God has for bodies. The Lord Jesus died and disappeared out of sight when He was buried. However, three days later, He came back to life. God brings life out of something that is dead. Since God raised the Lord Jesus from the dead, we now know He can do that to every person who has died. He will make sure everyone lives forever in Heaven if they are saved (resurrection of the just), or in hell (resurrection of damnation) if they are not. God has the power to make it happen! If you die, will YOU be raised to be in Heaven or in the Lake of Fire? Are you saved?
