GOOD AS GOLD

What do you know about gold? In a guarded safe in the New York Federal Reserve Bank, the walls are lines with stacks and stacks of gold bricks. About 50 other countries put their gold in this safe.

And did you know that gold is indestructible? That means that the gold bricks in that safe could have come from Solomon's temple. Or King Tut's tomb!

But how would you know if something was real gold, or just a fake?

Let's pretend we're doing a chemistry experiment. We have a hundred gold nuggets. Or so it seems. Actually, only one is real gold. How will we find out which one?

First, we'll put them all in water. Hmmm. That one rusted. So did that other one. There's a brown crust on that one, too. Throw them out. They're not gold.

Next we'll wave a powerful magnet over all the nuggets. You see, only metals that have iron in them will attract to the magnet. See? These here are stuck to the magnet. They can't be gold, either. Gold doesn't stick to magnets.

I know! We can send them through the fire. A very hot fire. Stand back from the heat! Well, that one caught on fire. This one over here turned black. They can't be gold.

We have only one left. Can it be gold? It passed the magnet test and the water test. It's still perfect - bright yellow, no dents or scratches. No rust. Throw it in the fire!

Aha! This is it! Pure gold. Even fire didn't change it. Gold doesn't react with anything. The water could find nothing to rust. The magnet nothing to attract. The fire nothing to burn. Gold is gold.

That's how perfect the Lord Jesus is. Satan found no sin in Him to react with his evil questions. The questions bounced off, and even came back tagged as wrong. Even Satan had to admit, the Lord Jesus is the perfect Son of God. All Satan's tests began with, "If you are the Son of God..." His perfect answers erased the "if" and shouted, "Yes! He is the Son of God!"
