Themes: Unity of the Law DV It looked very old and broken down, but Mr. Jacksons' company bought the old factory anyway. It was his job to look it over and see how much repair was actually needed. One morning, Greggs' dad asked him if he would like to come along and see the old place. Gregg was excited, it wasn't every day that dad took him to work. It was cold in there, and Gregg was glad he had brought his gloves. Mr. Jackson got involved in his work, checking out things, and for a while Gregg wandered around exploring. He found an old chain, and was carrying it when he came across an old elevator. Gregg stepped onto it carefully, and pushed the "up" button, and to his surprise it worked. It took him up quickly, this was fun he thought, and for a few minutes he took a ride up and down. Finally he thought he should stop. The old elevator made noises, and Gregg thought it might alarm his dad. So stepping off, he walked onto a floor he hadn't seen. It was darker than the other floors, and Gregg soon became scared. He went back to the elevator, and without looking in he turned around to look back at the darkness. Without him knowing, the creaky elevator had gone all the way up to the top. Gregg stepped back, and fell into the elevator shaft. As he fell he swung his hand with the chain in it, and to his surprise it caught on something. He began to scream, and his dad heard him. Mr. Jackson had heard the elevator noise, and was already on the way. Hang on Gregg, his dad yelled, and running down the stairs he came to the floor underneath Gregg just as the chain broke. Mr. Jackson was able to break his fall but not without Gregg being hurt. The Doctor said he was fortunate to have only suffered a sprained ankle and a few bruises. Later Mr. jackson examined the chain, only to find it very strong. Every link was as good as the day it had been made, except for one. Somehow one link had broken in use over the years, and could not hold Gregg when he needed it most. That reminds me boys and girls of what God says about the "Ten Commandments." "Whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend (or brake) in one point, he is guilty of all" James 2:10 The Bible tells us that the "Law" was our schoolmaster (or teacher) to bring us to Christ, that we might be Justified (cleared of guilt and made right before God) by faith alone in Christ. Will you not trust the Lord Jesus today, he has paid your debt to God. there is no law you can put your faith in. There is nothing left for you to do, but to trust him.
