HE PROMISED!

General Douglas MacArthur was a great general in World War II. In March of 1942, he led military troops to the Philippines, a cluster of islands between Japan and the United States. He wanted to stop the Japanese from taking over all the islands in the Pacific Ocean. They had conquered some islands already, and General MacArthur wanted to stop them immediately.

MacArthur brought a large group of soldiers to the Philippines. However, the Japanese had more soldiers and they fought back fiercely and began to win. Things did not look good for the United States.

Finally, on March 12, 1942, United States President Franklin Roosevelt sent the news to MacArthur. "Get out of the Philippines immediately. Since the US was losing, the President did not want any more soldiers to die in battle.

General MacArthur did not want to leave. The Japanese were hurting the people who lived on the islands and he thought this was wrong. However, the President is the Commander and Chief of the military. He is the boss. MacArthur left because the President ordered him to leave. As he was leaving the Philippines, he said three unforgettable words. "I shall return." He promised the people that he would come back and help them.

Over two years passed, and Japan was still strong in the islands of the Pacific Ocean. Slowly, General MacArthur began to move back through the islands. One by one he conquered them and raised the American flag. The Philippines were getting closer and closer.

On October 25, 1944. General Douglas MacArthur and 225,000 troops poured on to the island of the Philippines. Japan had begun to weaken in the long war. This time, the Japanese were not as strong. The United States slowly destroyed the Japanese forces on the island. Japan suffered its worst loss of World War II.
General MacArthur made a promise and kept it. He wanted to keep the people in the Philippines safe. He promised he would do it and he did.

Just as Douglas MacArthur promised to come back to the Philippines, Jesus promised to come back to earth. He promised would come and take everybody that is saved to Heaven to live with Him forever. He said, "If I go and prepare a place for you, I WILL COME AGAIN and receive you unto myself" (John 14:3). This promise will come true.

He did go to the cross and shed his blood so we can have our sins forgiven and be saved from the punishment we deserve. The next thing He will do is come again.

The Bible teaches He could come back at any moment. He could come today. If He does, remember only saved people will go to Heaven with Him. If He does come today, will you go? Or, will you be left behind?
