Themes: "World's Attraction, Uncertain Riches M.D. How would you like to be a millionaire and be able to buy anything you want? "Wow", you say, "give me a chance!" A lot of people believe that having money means happiness and contentment but while it's not wrong to be rich, it's certainly no guarantee of being happy. Someone said one time, "Money will buy everything BUT happiness and take you everywhere EXCEPT heaven!" In fact, all of our possessions are only temporary because when we die, we leave everything behind. Take the case of Henry Ford, the car-maker. After fame and fortune had come his way, he began work on the mansion of his dreams during the early 1900's. The house, which he called "Fairlane", was situated on the Rouge River just outside of Detroit, Michigan. It included 55 rooms spread over 3 floors. Eight fire places graced the mansion while 550 electrical switches and a built-in vacuum system were installed throughout the house. He brought in special carpenters from Europe to do the wood-carving for his library that would hold 4,000 books. Special Indiana limestone was quarried from an island in Lake Erie. Everything he did showed how carefully he had planned every detail and how perfect the workmanship really was. He even built his own generating plant along the Rouge River to provide electricity to the entire estate, with loads of extra power for parts of the city of Detroit. His engineers made sure that nothing would ever stop the flow of power to "Fairlane". Interestingly, the price tag for all of this back in 1917 was $1,057,000. Henry Ford had spent a fortune for his own comfort and glory! Thirty years slipped by. In April of 1947, storm clouds began to gather over the city of Detroit and sheets of rain began to fall. Within hours the Rouge River was overflowing its banks and, by nightfall, the water had crept into the powerhouse. For the first time in 30 years, the lights went out! Strangely enough, it was also the night that Henry Ford lay dying in an upstairs bedroom. Even though he was surrounded by the best of construction and luxury, he left this world just the way he had entered it 87 years before - in a cold house lit by candles! Interesting, isn't it! We take nothing with us when we die. That's why the Lord Jesus so clearly taught that we should SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS right here and now. Building up treasures on earth only brings rust and decay, worry and concern. But to put spiritual things first, brings a harvest of blessings. Tell me, where is your treasure being stored?
