McMillions Lost Print E-mail
Themes: Only One Way is Right

D.O.

What excitement! On Friday, October 12, 1990, Charles and Thelma Bellows became millionaires. Charles was 52 and had been a carpenter for years. His wife, Thelma, worked for a grocery store. Their millions came from McDonalds.

Their married, 22 year old daughter, Charlene Saunders, worked for McDonalds. She lived 30 miles away from their home in Kawkawlin, Michigan. One day they went to Cenken to the McDonalds where their daughter worked. Thelma ordered her meal at the inside counter, not at the drive-through window, where Charlene worked. That's where it happened.

An entry in the McMillionaire's Contest came with their meal. That entry was the winning ticket. They won $10 million! That's the good news.

The bad news came that weekend. In the fine print, the rules of the contest were clear. No employee of McDonalds or their immediate family could win. Maybe the Bellows didn't read the rules. Maybe they ignored them. They tried to argue that their daughter was married. She didn't live with them. They didn't receive the entry from her. That didn't change what the rules said. They lost their $10 million, every last penny of it.

Losing $10 million is sad but your soul is worth more than that. Many people will lose their souls because they have ignored what God says. In the Bible story, Uzzah lost his life because David ignored God's Word. God's Word has said, "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverbs 16:25). Some people think that they will be in heaven because they pray. Others think they are good enough to be there. People think they will be in heaven because they go to church. So many different ways seem right to so many different people. The Bible says that there is only one way. The Lord Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me" (John 14:6).

God's Word tells us we are sinners. Everything we do to be in heaven is not acceptable. We need a Savior. The Lord Jesus Christ came from heaven. On the cross, He died for sinners. By His death, He provided the only way to heaven. Every person who receives Him as their Savior will be in heaven. God's Word says so. "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life" (1 John 5:12). If you ignore God's Word, you will lose your soul.

Here's another message God has given: "Now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2). You could ignore God's Word and think you can be saved sometime later. Ignoring God's Word is costly. Receive the Lord Jesus today.
