Imagine graduating at the head of your class. That's just what he had done. He was very smart. He had come to this country from a foreign land at the age of six. He couldn't speak English when he came and yet he graduated at the top of his high school class.

He was very successful. Not only had he learned English and gone through the schools in Chicago, but he had graduated as Valedictorian of his high school class. But more than that! He was so bright that he had received a full scholarship to the University of Chicago. Everything was paid for by his scholarship. The University was proud to be able to have him attend. It looked as though he had a bright future.

Have you ever known anyone who appeared to have it all made? They seemed to be successful at everything. They could do almost anything and everyone was a friend. We can only see on the outside. We are not able to see behind the scenes. But more importantly, we cannot see people's hearts. Only God is able to see a person's spiritual condition.

What does God see when He looks at you? Others might think that you are good; some might think that you are a Christian. But God knows your heart. "Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart" 1Sam. 16:7.

It was in college that things went wrong. He was very intelligent. He was successful. He was in college on a full four year scholarship. But suddenly, it was discovered that he lacked one thing: he was an illegal immigrant and did not have a passport. He had no right to be in this country.

Even though he had intelligence, success, a scholarship, and a bright future, he didn't have the one thing that he needed. He didn't have a passport to enable him to live in this country. He was only six when he was brought to the USA. Some would argue that it wasn't his fault. But the fact remained that he didn't have a passport.

Do you have the one thing which you need to be in God's heaven? Money, fame, success, and kindness are not enough. Not even religion is enough to allow you into God's home above. It is right that we should be kind and generous. It is important always to do the very best we can do for others. But all of that will never pay for the sins which we do commit.

Only the blood of Christ can pay for the sins of which we are guilty. If you tell God that you do not need His Son and His salvation, then God has the same message for you that the Lord Jesus had for the rich, young ruler: "One thing thou lackest". Do you have what God requires for heaven?
