Themes: Grace JH One evening, a woman was strolling through a busy and crowded shopping mall. She knew that she needed some money, and she spotted a nearby automatic teller machine. She approached the machine, indicated she needed a withdrawal, and punched in the amount, sixty dollars. She double checked the amount - $60.00, sure enough. The machine spit out a few bills. Without bothering to count them, she took them, folded them, and put them in a special compartment in her wallet. She continued with her shopping, and eventually headed home. It wasn't until she got home and counted the money that she realized there had been a mistake. There was ninety dollars in her wallet - thirty dollars too much! She realized that the money wasn't hers, and she decided to return it to the bank as soon as possible. Being a recipient of grace means that you get more than you deserve. The woman hadn't earned the extra money, she hadn't worked for it, and yet she got it. The MAC machine that the woman used didn't love her, didn't want to give her the extra money, and was incapable of choosing to do so. It simply got its wires crossed and made a mistake. For a short time, the woman had something she didn't deserve, but eventually she had to pay it back. God's grace is a choice. He chooses to give us blessings we don't deserve. Someone has said, "Real love is an expression of deepest appreciation for another human being; it is an intense awareness of his or her needs and longings for the past, present and future. It is unselfish and giving and caring." When God shows grace, as He always does, He does it out of a heart of infinite love and liberality. He knows we are not worthy of His gifts, but He freely gives them anyway. If you realize that you are an unworthy sinner, but "the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord," (Romans 6:23), you can enjoy the gift of salvation forever.
