While there are parks throughout the country, the most popular parks are in the Western states. Yellowstone National Park, the oldest, largest, and in many ways the most impressive, is located in the northwest corner of Wyoming. There are many attractions to see at this national park: unique animals, lakes, hot springs, and geysers. Geysers are one of the most fascinating acts of nature. Even though they have been studied, they are not fully understood. Water from rain and melted snow seeps into the rock near volcanic plateaus known as "Hot springs". Here the water is heated by the molten rock to some 500 degrees Fahrenheit. It begins to boil and as it does, it rises toward the surface. Much of the boiling water is converted into steam. As the pressure builds up, it continues to rise to the surface, erupting from the ground as a geyser. While there are thousands of such geysers in the park, there is one geyser that attracts the most attention. It erupts on the average of every 70 - 80 minutes with little variation. It shoots 10,000 gallons of boiling water and steam as high as 170 feet into the air. On a calm windless day it will last for about four minutes. The geyser has gained world wide fame. Its name declares how faithful it has been over the many years. It is called "Old Faithful". Men give names to places and acts of nature which reveal something about the place. "Old Faithful" can be depended upon to shoot into the air every 70 -80 minutes. Our story about the Lord Jesus and His Names reminds us that He is exactly what His Name say. He is the Word who has come from God to tell us about the heart of God - His love, and about the way in which God thinks - His holiness and grace. We would never have known these things about God had "The Word" not come. As "The Light" He has come to reveal our sin (John 3:19). If the Lord Jesus had not come (just think of that horrible thought) we would have not known sin or salvation (John 15:22). As the "Lamb of God" He is revealed as the one who alone could pay the great price of sin. In love He came to give His life upon the cross at Calvary (John 10) that boys and girls, men and women, might find eternal life, the forgiveness of sins, and peace. Do these names mean anything to you?
