Themes Free Choice NO, I DON't THINK SO! The kitchen curtains sway softly in the evening breeze. I peer across the driveway to the building next door. It is almost seven o'clock. Soon I will hear hymns. The singing will drift in through my window ........ as if to invite me to come. But I won't go. No, not me! The building next door is a Gospel Hall. The few people that come several times a week are all very friendly. In fact, sometimes they buy my smoked salmon. They even visited and sent cards when my husband had a heart attack. Nice people. "Have you been to jesus for the cleansing power, are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?" The words of this old hymn softly bypass my curtains and come right into my kitchen. I've heard this one before, many times. In fact, I think my grandmother sang it to me years ago. Hmmmm......I wonder if I should go to one of their meetings some time? No, not tonight. Besides, the meeting has already started. I'll just watch television instead. What's this flyer? Where did this come from? I don't remember. Oh yes, the people from the Gospel Hall left it for me last week - something about special gospel meetings for a couple of weeks. Why do they keep asking me to come? For forty years, they've asked me to come. Why do they keep asking? I hear the next hymn. I've heard this one before too...."Would you be free from your burden of sin, there's power in the blood, power in the blood." Why are they always singing about sin and blood? Should I close the window? Sometimes, on a quiet night like this, I can hear the preacher. Sometimes I listen. No one knows. Burden of sin? I wonder what this means. Sin is what murderers and thieves do. Isn't it? I don't have any burden of sin. I don't need to go to their meetings. I'm fine just the way I am. Aren't I? But, the hall is not full of convicts........it is full of ordinary people. Maybe there is something to what they are preaching! Hmmm.......But, no, I don't think it's for me! Something is bothering me. I can't settle. The flyer on the counter draws my attention "......today you are privileged to hear the Gospel of the Lord Jesus christ. Do not delay; for now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation. Don't reject His offer of mercy. Tomorrow may be too late!" Tomorrow? Tomorrow I must go to work. Tomorrow I............. "Prepare to meet Thy God." The preacher's words bounce across the driveway, loud and clear. Will I really have to meet God? But tomorrow I............. Friend, don't put it off! Face your sin and flee to the savior who wants to save you. After all, "How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation" (Hebrews 2:3).

The writer no doubt has some insight as to not only a possible scenario regarding those that live close to the hall or have received invitations to meetings.
