RESCUED!

There is no way to completely explain how I felt. It is not the kind of experience every one has. What had been a normal day at the beach was suddenly very different.

The day started when a group of us headed from our condo to the ocean in Outer Banks, North Carolina. We rushed in to swim in the waves. I was having a lot of fun! It was great to be with friends and body surf on the waves.

Suddenly, something happened. Something went wrong with the wave I was swimming on. I had been riding the edge of the wave looking toward shore. Suddenly, my face was in the water. In a split second, the wave pushed my shoulders down and hit my head on the sand at the bottom. As soon as my head hit, I heard a popping noise in my neck, and felt a coldness come over my body. When I tried to move my arms to swim, nothing happened. My legs would not move either. None of my body would do what I wanted, I was paralyzed! The best words to describe what I felt is total helplessness. I realized I could not help myself. The only way for me to get out of the water was for someone else to help me. I was scared because nobody knew I needed help.

As the ocean tossed my body, my face came above the surface for a second. I quickly gulped some air before I went back under again. I prayed for someone to pull me out. One of my friends saw my face when it popped up, and when I did not stand up, he thought something must be wrong. He ran to the area where he saw me and began looking into the water to find me. Finally, he saw me rolling under the water. Quickly he grabbed me and pulled me out of the water. As I lay on the beach, I was thankful for being rescued. He did what I was unable to do. My friend had saved my life!

Sin is a great danger to people. The result of sin is death and Hell for eternity. Sinners are helpless to fix this, just like I was. We cannot do anything to make our sins go away. The Bible says that even the good things we do are like dirty old rags to God (Isaiah 64:6). There has to be someone else to take our sins away. The Lord Jesus took the penalty for sinners on the cross. God's Word says the Lord Jesus, "his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree" (1 Peter 2:24). On the cross, "Christ died for our sins" (I Corinthians 15:3).

Everything has been done. In His death, the Lord Jesus paid for sins. Trust Him, and you can be sure you will be in Heaven.
