Themes: God is Calling D.V. Have you sent a postcard to another planet lately? Or perhaps phoned a short message to someone's answering machine in the next galaxy? Sound odd? Well that's just a simple description of what astronomers have been attempting for almost 20 years now!
Their idea first took to the sky in 1973. In that year, the Pioneer 10 space probe made history. It became the first object from Earth to travel beyond the boundary of our solar system. In doing so, it also became the first inter-stellar mail truck: because riveted to its side is a metal "postcard" sent from scientists on Planet Earth. On that post card is a drawing of a man and a women (the man is waving hello), a star map describing the location of our solar system,and a diagram which shows that we humans live on the third planet from the sun.
In the event that Pioneer's post card ends up at the wrong address, two other space craft, Voyager 1 and 2, have also since left our solar system bearing their own space mail. Each carries on-board a special cylinder containing a sort of videodisc. Recorded on the disc are special messages from, among others, President Jimmy Carter and various world leaders. To round out the impressions of Earth, there's music from several countries and pictures from all corners of our globe. These discs were nicknamed "Earth's Greatest Hits".
Isn't it unfortunate that men are so eager to communicate with the supposed unknown beings of the universe, but have long ignored the Creator of the universe? When God created the vast masterpiece in our night sky, He sent us a message which is received on Earth 24 hours of every day. It reaches every address and never gets lost in the mail!
The Bible says in Psalms 19 :"The heavens declare the glory of God,...There is no language where their voice is not heard." The planets and stars all speak volumes about God's power and presence; but men refusing to be accountable to their Creator,have refused to know Him, and so they are looking for someone else to communicate with. They, like Eli the priest, have not heard God's voice in the night, nor any other voice for that matter.
How about you? Have you heard the message that God the Creator "so loved the World"? Do you know that the Lord Jesus came to bear sins punishment for you? The Bible says "Christ ..once suffered for sins,the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God." Rely upon what the Lord Jesus did on your behalf to make you fit for Heaven. Trust Him as your Savior,and you'll not miss God's great message to Planet Earth.
