Themes Alone with no help SHARKS! The weather was overcast as Walter Wyatt sprinted to his private plane. Glancing at his watch he realized he would be late if he was not in the air soon. The flight from Nassau to Miami normally took 65 minutes. He would just make it. Walter froze when he reached the plane. The side door had been pried open. Dangling wires in the cockpit meant thieves. The navigation equipment was gone! He glanced at his watch again. He knew he had to make his business appointment. Running back to his car, he grabbed a hand held radio and a compass. Within moments, he lifted off. As the Beechcraft gained altitude, Walter suddenly became aware of a storm blackening the sky. He climbed above the cloud ceiling thinking he could navigate by compass. Soon the compass began to gyrate. Walter concluded he was headed in the wrong direction and swung the plane around. Dropping below the clouds, he hoped to spot something familiar. He found nothing. Walter was lost. He put out a mayday call, but never saw the Coast Guard Falcon sent up to lead him to safety. His engine sputtered and died - his fuel tank had run dry! Fighting panic, he glided the crippled plane into the water. He survived the crash, but the plane sank quickly Walter bobbed in the water in his leaky life vest - alone! As he floated on his back, blood from a cut on his forehead drew unwanted attention. Suddenly, he felt something hard bump against his body. A shark! He kicked at it and it veered away. Miraculously the predator did not return. All that night, he floated alone, hoping for a rescuer. As morning dawned, he scanned the horizon for a search plane. Nothing. Only a dorsal fin cruising straight for him. The shark bumped him hard. More sharks sliced through the water to attack. Walter kicked at the monsters and they veered away. He was nearing exhaustion. Just then, he heard a drone in the distance. A rescue plane! Frantically he waved. The pilot spotted him. Radioing a cutter, the pilot shouted, "Hurry - sharks!" It seemed like forever. But, only twelve minutes later, a cutter ship pulled along side Wyatt and dropped a ladder. Wearily he climbed up, fell to his knees and kissed the deck. He was thankful to be saved. Unlike Walter Wyatt, the Lord Jesus spent long hours on the cross and no one came to rescue Him. He was alone when God punished Him for sins He had never committed. Unlike Mr. Wyatt, the Lord's circumstances were no accident. He had come to earth to endure the sufferings of the cross that you might be saved eternally from the punishment for your sins! He "is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world" (John 4:42). However, have YOU trusted Him as your personal "rescuer?" Has He saved YOU?
