Themes: God's Word, Faith, Trust, God's Credibility D.V. Some things are hard to believe, aren't they ? When someone tells you a tall tale, you almost wonder if you heard it right. Take for instance some world records- like the one held by a young man from Chicago. Believe it or not, he ate a 4 12 inch diameter, 11 foot long birch tree. Yes, you heard right-the trunk the bark, branches, leaves and all; and all in only 3 days 17 hours. That must certainly qualify as "power eating". Then there's the record for the most spaghetti consumed in the shortest time; not just a few fork fulls of spaghetti mind you, but 300 feet of it! The record setting time: 12.02 seconds. For those who marvel at feats of strength, there's the man from NJ who did 125,000 situps in 76 1/2 hours. That's an average of 1,634/hour! Compare that to your best record! Or the English man who did 3857 one-armed push-ups in 5 hours (over 12/minute). It makes you wonder in amazement at first, doesn't it? Yes, some things are hard to believe but we're eventually willing to accept them as true if They're from a reliable source. The ones you've just read are from a well known book of world records. In all likelihood, they can be trusted. Did you know though, that many people seem likelier to believe a book of world records before They'll believe God's word? They remind me of the religious leaders in the Lord Jesus' time who witnessed his supernatural miracles every day. With hearts full of pride and selfish interests, they refused to believe even what they saw with their own eyes. The blind beggar Jesus healed was honest enough to state the truth in a very simple way: "This one thing I know" he said; "That once I was blind but now I see!" How about you? Are you willing to believe God about yourself? The Lord Jesus said that heaven and earth would pass away but His words would never pass away. The Psalmist was thankful that God's word was forever settled in heaven. That means that His word will never change. It is sure and certain. God is the most reliable source in heaven or earth! He says all have sinned, and He will not have you in Heaven with unforgiven sins. But He also tells us that the Lord Jesus, as a substitute, made one great payment to God for sins- on your behalf! All He asks now is that you let go of every idea of how you'll get yourself to Heaven, and rely on His Son as your only hope. You can trust God to deliver on the rest!
