The best part of the school year is SUMMER VACATION!

You know what it is like to be cooped up in a classroom behind a pile of books for nine months. After that, there's nothing like packing up your suit cases and stuffing them into the station wagon. Mom, Dad, brothers, sisters, you and the dog climb in and head out on a camping trip to the Rocky Mountains.

While you are listening to your Walkman and fighting for the window seat, Mom reads the road map for Dad. She feels responsible to keep you on the right roads to the Rockies. Suddenly, Dad remembers a guy at work had suggested a short cut. Dad shifts in his seat and announces, "Just shy of Omaha, Nebraska, my friend at work told me to take a side road. He said if we take this side road for about 70 miles we'll avoid a lot of construction traffic in the city."

"That road is not on the map. It's not worth the risk of getting lost." Mom challenges.

Ole Dad chuckles. "Awe c'mon. Let's try it. Jim said it would work." Dad suddenly swings the car off the highway and down on to the side road.

Soon, Mom dozes off. Dad mumbles and hums as the car rolls along. A few hours later Dad slows, turning into a gas station. Mom jolts upright. Immediately she spots a road sign and points. "Look!"

Neither her or dad are smiling. The sign reads: "SMOKEY MOUNTAINS - STRAIGHT AHEAD" Now what? The trip was planned for the Rocky Mountains.

You're lost! And, you don't have a camp site reserved in the Smokey Mountains.

This is a great example of how folks live their lives today. Even though the Bible tells us how to live and how to be saved, many people say, "I'll do it my way." However, our road map, the Bible warns us, "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverbs 14:12). The Bible says there is only one way to get to Heaven. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the father but by me" (John 14:6).
