THE TRADING TRAGEDY

It was the day after Christmas. Billy Webb trudged home with his head down and his shoulders drooping. He put one foot in front of the other. Step by step, he came closer to his house. He choked back tears as he gripped the handle of his bright red Radio Flyer Wagon. A tangled mass of wires and wheels lay piled in the wagon. He put his hand in his pocket and pulled out a remote control. It was useless now. He let it slip from his fingers and drop on the grass. Maybe Mr. Callahan's dog would find it and chew it up. Billy just didn't care.

Just a short time before, Billy had ridden away on his new bike. It was a shiny machine with streamers on the handles, glitter paint, and even a hook on the back to tow his wagon. "The best Christmas ever," thought Billy. He remembered calling out to his Mom as he left the house, "I'm going over to Mac's to show him my new bike." Mac was Billy's best friend.

As Billy rode up to Mac's house, he saw a group of boys crowded around something. Billy pushed his way through. They were all looking at a beautiful red Ferrari remote control car with doors that opened and working headlights. "I got this for Christmas." announced Mac.

"Cool!" Billy exclaimed, "How fast will it go?"

"Well, the box says it'll go up to 25 miles an hour. What did you get for Christmas?" Billy showed Mac his new bike.

Suddenly, Billy had an idea. "Mac, would you trade me your car for my bike?" Billy knew his Mom and Dad would be upset, but he really wanted the car.

"Well, it's awesome bike and mine is all beat up," said Mac, "sure, let's trade."

Billy was proud of his new car. He watched it zip around as he pushed the buttons and pulled the levers. He decided to see how fast it would go. He revved it up the driveway and out into the street. Suddenly, Billy heard the squeal of tires, and he looked up just as a pickup truck screeched to a halt. The big tires on the truck had flattened the red Ferrari. Billy ran out into the street, but it was too late. His new toy was ruined. How was he going to explain this to his Dad and Mom? Billy felt awful.

You have something even more important than a brand new bike. It's your soul. The devil will offer you many shiny, beautiful things in life. Never let your friends, your toys, your school, your job or anything become more important than your soul.. If you are saved, you will live in Heaven. If you are not, you will spend forever in Hell. Do not trade your soul for anything. Make sure you get God's salvation through the Lord Jesus. The Bible says, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you."
