THE UGLY FACE

The little girl looked into the living room. She wondered who her mother was talking to. Whoever it was, he was all bent over and he walked with a limp. When she went in and the man turned around, his face was so scarred that her first reaction was to scream and run up to her bedroom. "Oh, he looked hideous, he was so scary. Why would mother talk to anyone like that? I wish he would leave," she thought.

Then she heard the footsteps of her mother in the hallway and her mother came in to her room. When she looked, she saw that there were tears in her mother's eyes, too.

"Who is that man? He is so ugly, he scares me. Has he left yet?" the girl asked.

Her mother then explained who that man was. "Years ago, when you were just a baby, there was a fire in our house. Daddy and I escaped with your brother, but when we got outside we realized you were still stuck inside the house. The fire was so bad that when daddy tried to get back in to save you, he couldn't. Then a fireman went in to the flames and after a couple minutes, he emerged with you safely under his jacket. The fire had burned his face, arms and legs very badly and he had to go to the hospital. To this day he bears those scars. That fireman is the man who is downstairs and the scars that make him so ugly are because of you. Does that change how you feel about it?"

"That makes everything so different," the girl replied. "The things that made me afraid of this man are now the things that I love. Now I can see what I couldn't see before. Can I go thank him and apologize for what I did?" Then, the girl and her mother went downstairs and the little girl apologized and kissed that face that was so ugly, because now she saw something new there.

Some people are afraid of being saved because it seems to be so dull and boring and they want to be happy and enjoy life. They don't know that only when you are saved, can you really enjoy life.

The Bible says, "O taste and see that the Lord is good" (Psalm 34:8). Only those who have come to Christ know how "good" the Lord is. The Lord Jesus told a woman, "If thou knewest the gift of God and Who it is that sayeth to thee, 'Give Me to drink' thou wouldest have asked of Him and He would have given thee Living Water."

The salvation of God is both good and satisfying. Obey the Savior's words, "Come unto Me all ye that labor and are heavy laden; and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).
