Themes: "Grace, God's Unconditional Love AJH For over forty years Teddy Kessler had worked for the same Big League baseball team. His father, before him, had worked for the same team for sixty years. His job wasn't one of those big, glamorous ones. He simply helped around the clubhouse, did odd jobs, ran errands and helped wherever he could. He never became rich or famous. But he liked his job, was liked by the players, and was devoted to his team. Then one day he was called into the office of the General Manager. On the wall of the office were pictures of some of the big league stars whom he had known. The manager told him how hard it was to have to fire old players. It always hurt. But now he had to fire Teddy. Money was scarce and times were bad. After forty years, Teddy was told he could leave. Teddy was stunned. But even worse than that, he was hurt. He had spent his whole life here. He had given everything to help the team. Now he was told he was finished. For three weeks he was like a man in a dream. He couldn't get over what had happened . Then, Teddy died of a heart attack. He never got over the shock of being unwanted. He felt that they had not appreciated all he had done for forty years. His family was very angry. Word was given to the General Manager that he better not come to the funeral. He tried to send flowers, but the family returned them. They said that Teddy died of a broken heart, and that the manager was the man who broke it. One of the greatest sorrows is the hurt of not being wanted, of not being appreciated. But the Bible tells of another unwanted - the Lord Jesus Christ (John 3:16). We can never measure the sacrifice He made to save us. Yet each day that boys and girls, men and women reject the Lord Jesus as Savior, they are telling God that they do not appreciate all that He has done. They are willing to live their lives as though Christ had never come and died. Was does the death of the Lord Jesus mean to you? Is your life any different because He died upon Calvary? Is your future eternity any different because He shed His blood to save you from your sins (1John 1:7) ? Centuries ago, men said "We will not have this man to reign over us" (Luke 19:14). Are you saying the same thing to God today?
