WARNING!

Thirty thousand people died in seconds!

On May 8, 1902, a cloud of super-heated steam burst from Mount Pelee on the Caribbean island of Martinique. St. Pierre was the prettiest of all the West Indian cities. It was a quaint harbor town of 30,000 people at the base of Mount Pelee.

At 7:50 a.m., Mount Pelee erupted. Gas and steam exploded into the sky blocking the sun. Boiling lava flowed through the city turning the harbor into a flaming caldron. Within three minutes, everyone was dead and the town was a desert of ash.

Geological investigators from the United States had warned that the mountain was going to blow up. They had been asking people to evacuate for weeks. If you had lived in St. Pierre, would you have listened to the warnings?

The Bible warns you: "Prepare to meet thy God!" You must be saved through the Lord Jesus to be in Heaven and not be punished for your sins. It is sad that many people hear God's warning, but never have a time when they are saved. Have you?

The Geologists did not give the only warning. Months before, all the animals and insects crawled down and left the smoking mountain behind. The people had even heard small rumblings for days before it exploded.

An important election was to take place in St. Pierre. The warnings about Mount Pelee made the people nervous. The King of France ordered his soldiers to block all roads leading out of St. Pierre. No one was to leave until the election was over.

Satan has deceived many people into thinking there is more time to enjoy life. He gives people all kinds of things they must do first. He gets people to think that salvation can wait until a better time.

However, no one knows the time of the Lord's return or when they will die. Now is the best time to "prepare to meet thy God."

One ship, called the Roddam, struggled out of the harbor with the news of the disaster and crept to St. Lucia, the nearest island. "I have just sailed from the gates of Hell!" said the captain. His boat was still smoldering, and dead men lay on the deck.

God has not only warned you of the real flames in Hell, He has provided a way of salvation. The Lord Jesus has suffered the punishment of God for sins when He was on the cross. God is warning you and wanting you to be saved.

If you are not saved today, you are like the people of St. Pierre. Remember, God's wrath will be much greater than the fire of a volcano. No wonder God says, "Behold, NOW is the accepted time; behold NOW is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians. 6:2).
