Themes The Law WILL IT HOLD? It looked very old and broken down, but Mr. Jacksons' company bought the factory anyway. It was his job to look it over and see how much repair was needed. One morning, Gregg's dad asked if he would like to come along and see the old place. Gregg was excited. It wasn't every day that his dad took him to work. It was cold inside. Gregg was glad he had brought his gloves. Mr. Jackson immediately began checking out different parts of the building. He left Gregg to wandered around and explore. Soon he found an old chain and picked it up. He was carrying it with him when he spotted an old elevator. Gregg stepped onto it carefully, and pushed the "up" button. To his surprise, it worked! It took him up quickly. Gregg thought it was fun. For a few minutes he took a ride up and down. Finally he thought he should stop. The old elevator made noises, and Gregg thought it might alarm his dad. So he stepped off on a floor he had never been on before. It was darker than the other floors and Gregg soon became scared. He went back to the elevator, and without looking in he turned around to look back at the darkness. Without him knowing, the creaky elevator had gone all the way up to the top. Gregg stepped back into the elevator shaft. Gregg gasped and swung his hand with the chain in it. To his surprise, it caught on something and he jolted to a stop. He began to scream. "Hang on Gregg!" his dad yelled as he ran down the stairs to the floor underneath Gregg. Just then, the chain snapped. Greg plummeted down towards the floor. Mr. Jackson was able to break his fall but not without Gregg being hurt. His dad rushed him to the hospital. The Doctor said he was fortunate to have only suffered a sprained ankle and a few bruises. Later Mr. Jackson examined the chain. Every link was very strong but one. Somehow one link had partially broken in the use over the years. It couldn't hold Gregg's weight. It snapped when Gregg needed it most. The "Ten Commandments" are like a ten link chain. Breaking one is just as bad as breaking more than one. The Bible says, "Whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend (or break) in one point, he is guilty of all" (James 2:10). You deserve to be punished by God for breaking His law. You need to be justified or cleared of guilt. God can do this because the Lord Jesus has already endured the wrath of God. God is offering to justify you today. Are you willing to accept His provision and be "justified by faith" (Romans 5:1).
