Simon Wallace - I went through Confirmation classes to "confirm my faith in God" and become a member of the church. I don't remember the Bible being opened during these classes to have God's way of salvation explained. I had been baptised as a child and after these sessions was now a member of the church, and yet I remained ignorant as to the very reason for which Christ came into the world...
Memory Verse: Revelation 22:17 Memory Verse Text: Whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely.
Point 1: The true son of promise was born just as God had said he would. Point 2: Ishmael, "born after the flesh," mocked the promised son. As a result, there was conflict between the promised son and the results of the flesh, Ishmael (Galatians 4:28-31). Note: Mocked could mean played with, teased, or taunted. Point 3: The water in the skin ran out, bringing Hagar and Ishmael to an end of themselves. Point 4: God heard the voice of the lad. (It might be a good idea to emphasize that God was keenly aware of their need and was quick to respond even though Ishmael was only a lad.) He called to Hagar from heaven and opened her eyes to behold the well of water, provision that had been made long before they knew or saw it. Hagar and Ishmael each had to take of the water and drink it, and forget their pride.
