Lesson: 308 Lesson Name: The Final Message of Joshua Theme: Opportunity: A Turning Point / Choices Reading: Joshua 24:1-34 Memory Verse: Joshua 24:15 Memory Verse Text: Choose you this day whom ye will serve. Point 1: After Joshua led God's people to Canaan and they had become well established there, the time came for him to die. Joshua had fought a good fight, he had finished his course (as we all shall someday), and he had seen God at work with him in it all. Point 2: The people, no doubt, began to appreciate the blessings of the land more than they appreciated the Great Giver of it all. Before his death, Joshua reviewed with the children of Israel all that the LORD had done and all that the LORD had brought them into. Point 3: When Joshua commanded the people to reaffirm their choice to follow God, they obeyed with excellent words (Joshua 24:14-18). However, they quickly forgot their commitment to them and in the days of the Judges, every man did that which was right in his own eyes (Judges 17:6). Joshua clearly reminded the people about God's character and the response He expects from those He has redeemed, as well as the cost of disobedience (Joshua 24:19,20). Point 4: Joshua died when he was 110 years old with the testimony that "Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua" (Joshua 24:31). See also: Bible timeline poster.
