Memory Verse Text: The Lord delivereth him out of them all.

Point 1: Once again desiring to destroy David, Saul took three thousand men and relentlessly hunted for him in the wilderness of Engedi. David also had men with him that were completely loyal to him; they had become his followers as a result of the great victory over Goliath.
Point 2: God brought David's enemy Saul right to him; he fell asleep in the very cave where David and his men were hiding. As a result, David's men were sure that this was his opportunity to get rid of the King and to seize the kingdom for himself.
Point 3: David knew that God's ways are always better than man's ways, so instead of killing Saul, he took a piece of the bottom of his clothes while he was sleeping. After Saul woke up, David showed the piece of cloth to him and made him aware of how easy it would have been to kill him. Saul repented again, but it didn't last long.
Point 4: History repeated itself in 1 Sam. 26 when Saul, in yet another hateful manhunt, crossed paths with David. David was encouraged to take advantage of the situation again since Saul's spear was right there so close. However, Saul's life was spared when David chose to take his spear and water bottle instead; he then scolded Abner for his lack of alertness in guarding the King's life. It is interesting that God caused Saul to praise David and to admit, "I have played the fool." (1 Sam 26:21,25). Application: The Righteous Lord will be honored and praised as He deserves in a coming day by even those who hate Him now.
